StartUpSecure Initiative: Research Project Supporting the National IT-Strategy
October 1, 2019
StartUpSecure Initiative
prenode is proud to be among the selected projects of the StartUpSecure program. The initiative aims to support research teams that focus on cybersecurity topics. StartUpSecure was launched as part of the national IT security strategy and is led by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
As more and more companies implement AI, it emerges as a cornerstone technology that will give these organizations an important competitive advantage. However, traditional approaches to AI development require the centralization of data. This gives way to potential vulnerabilities.
prenode overcomes this issue by removing the need to centralize data. Our solution focuses on AI development on the edge, which means in the environment where the data is produced. In consequence, only the locally developed models are exchanged. The secure exchange of ML models between distributed systems plays an important role in the application of AI for companies. You can find out more details about this approach here: Edge AI.

The program involves cooperation with local competence hubs at universities. In Karlsruhe, the Competence Center for Applied Security Technology KASTEL at the KIT addresses the challenges of interconnected systems.
